Runway Rework: Escada 2012

Escada Fall 2012

In honor of the last day of the 2012 Republican National Convention, I thought I’d go to Escada for some red power suit inspiration. No, I’ll never be at this or any RNC. But if I were, I would try to be there in Escada. Failing that, here’s a substitute outfit for those of us actually interested in controlling spending.

2012 Republican National Convention fashion inspiration

  1. Tahari by ASL skirt suit – Yes, the suit is over $100, but it’s two pieces under $200, so it still counts.
  2. Sabine woven chain necklace – In lieu of a Madame Secretary broach.
  3. White in 8 studded black leather handbag – This is at Yoox.com, which has totally revamped its website. It’s a shopper’s dream.
  4. Calvin Klein Kail burgundy pumps – See how I’m warming to the trend? This burgundy looks really fresh against the red suit.
  5. Ash Great Bis camel kid suede pumps – If red and burgundy is too rad for you.

I can’t talk about RNC fashion without asking:  What exactly is going on with Paul Ryan’s lack of tailoring? His consistently too large suits say, “boy borrowing from his dad.” Is that deliberate? Is the GOP nervous about potential fallout from a style makeover, a la Sarah Palin in 2008? Would his P90X physique and good suits connote a metrosexual, or an insuffiently farm-boy image? Discuss. Here are some photos from the convention to get you started.
